by Jim Ziolkowski & James S. Hirsch

The moving and personal tale of Jim Ziolkowski, the founder of buildOn, an organization that transforms inner-city youth into community leaders in the United States and throughout the world, and his inspired quest to change the world one community at a time.

A STORY OF ACTUAL CHANGE CAN BEGIN WITH A SINGLE PERSON.

Jim Ziolkowski left a fast-track job in corporate finance twenty-one years ago to devote his life to buildOn, an organization that transforms inner-city teenagers into community leaders both at home and abroad. He set out to demonstrate how, through the power of service to others, each of us can transform the world, not just himself.

From Detroit and the South Bronx to Haiti, Mali, and Nepal, buildOn students have donated over 1.2 million hours of service while constructing over 550 schools across the world. They are reshaping their communities and breaking the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and low aspirations in their own lives.

The narrative of Jim's campaign and the hundreds of young people who have decided to step out, step up, and make a difference is told in Walk in Their Shoes, an international chronicle of faith and the unlimited potential of the human spirit.
